As we headed for our ferry from Santorini we were greeted with this spectacular sunrise. It was almost enough to make us stay!
But we knew we were on our way to Sifnos and were looking forward to a calmer, less touristy piece of Greece.
Sifnos is just so cute! You can damn near reach out and touch the whole island from the comfort of your hotel. :)
Our first afternoon was spent enjoying the utterly perfect little restaurant in our hotel and sightseeing what we could. We literally arrived on the last day of the season when bus schedules changed, tourists left in droves, and shops closed up for quite long siestas.
After scoping things out on the bus we knew we’d be comfortable driving on Sifnos so made a quick stop at a rental agency to inquire about a car. Turns out we could get this little cutie for just 20 Euros!
We picked her up the next morning and spent the whole day booting around the island checking out the handful of sights listed in our guide books.
We had the village of Kastro almost entirely to ourselves…
Although at one point we did feel like we were being followed…only to turn around and find this gal and her crazy big milk bags!
The water around the shores of Sifnos was almost all clear, blue and gorgeous. Sadly, it was freezing!
Chrysopigi Monastery…
One of our most delicious meals was at the one restaurant still open along Platis Gialos. What a view.
And back to Kamares where we spent our last evening in the islands really enjoying the quiet town, a delicious dinner, and ridiculously cheap wine while chatting with other patrons and the owners of our hotel.
Such a lovely spot to finish the island portion of our trip. Another day might have been perfect! We loaded up on pottery and conversation before heading for our final Greek ferry.
Back to Athens we go!
