Happy Winter! Exactly the right time of year to head South. The cold, rain and dreariness of January is enough to drive anyone around the bend so Michael and I planned our first official vacation together right smack in the middle of our West Coast Winter. Fun in the sun! (and a little rain)
Last year my friend Nicole went on a Caribbean Cruise with her family for New Years. When she told me it left from New Orleans it sparked my interest because New Orleans has always been on my bucket list, and the idea of a cruise was intriguing. I immediately got to researching the idea and asked Michael if he’d want to do it.
I guess he wanted to do it!
We decided on February so we could visit New Orleans during Mardi Gras…might as well do it up right! We’d take the 7 day Western Caribbean cruise with Royal Caribbean, then return to NOLA for 5 nights. The cruise was such a reasonable price it almost made up for the ridiculous hotel prices during Mardi Gras!
Our cruise was ah-mazing! We are soooo totally cruise people now. Apparently starting out on Royal Caribbean has probably spoiled us for all other cruise lines now, but we’re happy to be loyal if every cruise is as fun and well run as this one was. We never lacked for things to do…whether a port excursion, an evening variety show, or an upper deck volleyball tournament. The people were all lovely, the food delicious, and the daily itinerary always interesting and full of variety.
New Orleans was a different kind of amazing. Mardi Gras was like a giant outdoor non-stop frat party! Every time you turn around there is a massive parade going by! We’re pretty sure we should go back some other time to see what New Orleans is actually like. :) The weather didn’t cooperate the whole time but we didn’t let that stop us from checking out as much as we could.
